Extended Warranty Frequently Asked Questions
Working with Extended Warranties can be overwhelming at times, and our skilled team of Service Advisors are here to help you navigate through the process. Please understand that when we call one of these extended warranty companies that we are dealing with an insurance company that is trying to get out of paying a claim! Below, you will find a list of frequently asked questions, and the answers to those questions.
In most cases, as long as the failed component is covered by the extended warranty, the testing fee is paid by the extended warranty. If the failed component is not covered by the extended warranty, the testing fee will be the customer’s responsibility, which is why we receive authorization from you before performing any testing or inspections.
a. Any covered components will be listed on the contract signed at the time of purchase and we are happy to help you understand what is covered!
b. Generally speaking, many “maintenance” or “wear” items, such as Spark Plugs, Tires, Brakes, etc., are not covered under extended warranties, however that isn’t always the case, which is why we always recommend reading the fine print of the contract.
There are certain things that the extended warranty may partially cover, or not cover at all, these are things like –
i. Shop Fees
ii. Parts Cost (most will pay up to a certain amount, any additional cost will be the responsibility of the customer)
iii. Labor Cost (most will pay up to a certain labor cost, any additional cost will be the responsibility of the customer)
iv. Taxes (most will pay the taxes on the dollar amount of the parts cost that they cover, any additional taxes will be the responsibility of the customer)
v. Deducible
When extended warranty companies request disassembly, or tear down, of a system to determine the cause of failure, we receive authorization from the customer in the event that whatever caused the failure isn’t covered by the extended warranty, which would make the disassembly cost the customer’s responsibility. If the disassembly, or tear down, reveals that a covered component caused the failure, the disassembly cost should be paid by the extended warranty company.
Once repairs are completed, we will reach out to the extended warranty company for payment, and after that is received you will be free to pick up your car!
